Earlier today, President Obama announced that the United States, along with the European Union and Japan, is filing a challenge with the World Trade Organization against China's export limits on rare earth minerals. China controls the global supply of 17 rare earth minerals essential to the manufacturing of high-tech goods—including flat-screen televisions, mobile phones and hybrid car batteries—and the United States is 100 percent import reliant for the minerals (with 79 percent of our imports coming from China).
