Three National Mining Association member companies made the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) this year, including Newmont Mining Corporation, Barrick Gold Corp and Teck Resources. Newmont made the list for the sixth consecutive year, Barrick for the fifth consecutive year and Teck for the third.
Dow Jones released this week its premier sustainability index, which includes approximately 300 global companies identified as leaders in the areas of sustainable economic, environmental and social performance.
The index assesses companies based on a range of sustainability metrics, including governance, social performance and environmental and economic indicators, taking into account industry-specific trends and sustainability issues facing multiple sectors.
This recognition is a testament to these companies’ commitment to responsible mining and dedication to their employees. It acknowledges the hard work of employees and contractors around the world who consistently strive to demonstrate leadership in safety, environmental stewardship and social responsibility, and we are proud that they are members of NMA and congratulate them on this impressive honor.
