LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT AND CEO
September 3, 2025

Dear Friend,

As the importance of securing our supply chains and strengthening our national security grows, mining efforts across the country are accelerating. National Mining Association (NMA) member companies are rising to meet the need, while remaining deeply committed to being responsible neighbors in the communities where they operate and live.

Modern mining isn’t pickaxes and shovels anymore – mining in America is cleaner, safer and more advanced than ever before. Our member companies prioritize environmental stewardship and community engagement at every stage of their projects.

Responsible U.S. mining means protecting land, water and wildlife, and ensuring that operations have a positive impact on the people who live and work nearby. The U.S. mining industry operates under some of the world’s highest environmental standards, employing innovative technologies to minimize land disturbance, safeguard water quality and restore habitats. Our members go beyond compliance by actively monitoring environmental impacts, engaging with local stakeholders and continuously improving practices to ensure that mining benefits both people and the planet.

This video by the NMA is part of a series in which miners across the country talk about their jobs, the industry and the opportunities it offers. See how our members are prioritizing responsible mining across the country.

It also means being active contributors to local communities by creating high-quality jobs, supporting local economies and giving back through donations and philanthropy. The mining industry offers diverse career opportunities, from engineers and mechanics to environmental specialists and programmers. Every mining job supports at least 2.5 additional jobs in other sectors, multiplying the benefits for families and communities across the country.
