LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT AND CEO

May 12, 2025

Dear Friend,

On April 18, 2025, the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council announced an initial group of mineral production projects that will benefit from increased transparency, accountability, and predictability in the permitting review process. Following this announcement, an additional 10 projects received FAST- 41 status on May 2, 2025. These exciting actions highlight the economic, strategic, and national importance of minerals mining to this administration. Thirteen of our NMA members were included on these lists:

  • Resolution Copper Project
  • Stibnite Gold Project
  • McDermitt Exploration Project
  • Caldwell Canyon Mine Project
  • Libby Exploration Project
  • Lisbon Valley Copper Project
  • NorthMet Project
  • La Jara Mesa
  • Roca Honda Project
  • Greens Creek Surface Exploration
  • Stillwater Mine
  • 3PL Railroad Valley Exploration Project
  • Amelia A&B

The economic and regulatory impact of these actions will be transformational. By streamlining the permitting process, clarifying regulatory language, and establishing greater coordination and cooperation between federal and state regulatory agencies, we will be able to bring these mines online more efficiently and help America unlock its true potential. Once approved, these projects will bolster our national security and defense capabilities while creating thousands of high-paying jobs.

Positive developments are also occurring in Congress, with the Critical Mineral Clarity Act passing an important milestone in the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, coming one step closer to a full vote. These actions underscore the national importance of minerals to the economy and our national security. Continued momentum is needed to reduce mine permitting wait times and promote America’s mineral independence.

Thank you,

Rich Nolan
