New Joy Global video highlights role of minerals in technology

Posted on October 03, 2013 by Minerals Make Life

Joy Global, a National Mining Association member and equipment supplier to the mining industry, released a video showcasing the essential role of minerals in modern technology. Using a reverse time-lapse, the video rewinds the production process of a tablet from an assembled handheld device to its humble beginnings as an unprocessed mineral resource.

As seen in the video, the innovative technologies we have today are becoming increasingly dependent on minerals. Up to 60 different minerals are used in the manufacturing of computer chips today, compared to only 12 in the 1980s. And minerals are not just necessary for computers and tablets; they are needed in televisions, hybrid cars, medical technology, and most other devices we rely on every day.
