High demand for mining jobs

U.S. minerals mining is putting Americans back to work and helping improve the U.S. economy. Mining companies from around the country are working to employ military veterans who are uniquely qualified to fill these highly specialized positions. However, Ram-Enterprise in Elko, Nev., like most mining companies in the area, is under the gun to find the highly skilled labor—mechanics, millwrights, construction workers and other well-trained craftsmen—they need. As reported by Northern Nevada Business Weekly, the source of the problem is a persistent workforce skills gap.

“Ben Reeves of Elko Wire Rope and Mining Supply says his company employs eight and would hire another person if it found the right candidate… Someone with a background in mining would be an ideal fit, Reeves says. Trouble is, most people that fit that profile already are working somewhere. Most of the job applications Elko Wire Rope receives are from people who are newcomers to town and are greenhorns to the mining industry.”
