Last week, thousands of mining leaders and employers from around the world gathered in Las Vegas, Nev., for MINExpo International® 2012, the world's largest exhibition of mining equipment, products and services, sponsored by NMA.
The show featured 1,890 exhibitors and attracted more than 52,000 attendees—an increase of approximately 45 percent over the last exhibition held four years ago. At the show, exhibitors highlighted the latest technology in mining safety and product design innovation. Educational sessions were held each day on a variety of mining issues, including new mine development, reclamation and safety.
NMA’s Senior Vice President of Communications Carol Raulston noted that, “equipment producers currently are focusing on increased efficiency, better environmental performance and safety. We’re in the next generation of mining.”
Caterpillar Chairman and CEO Doug Oberhelman, who was also in attendance, attested to the weaker demand for construction and mining equipment, “there are a number of geopolitical and economic factors driving uncertainty in the world today, but our base case scenario calls for modest global economic growth over the next few years.”
